Five Skincare Items Every Man Needs

These days we’ve been blessed with not only game-changing grooming products specifically geared towards men’s needs but also a general sense that “yeah, having a solid grooming routine is not only necessary but pretty cool.” So if you’re not amongst those who have taken the time to invest in a solid grooming routine, now’s the time. The good news is, we’re here to help make it easier and more simple. We know the hardest part about creating a strong grooming routine is deciding on what to buy amongst the tons of products. The aisles of department stores and drug stores are overstocked with millions of products that promise to do everything great, not to mention no one wants to spend 45 minutes applying 15 different products each morning. It’s all good though, we’ve curated an extremely tight list of five essential grooming products that every guy should have in his bathroom in order to have great looking skin.

1. Facial Cleanser
You’re hopefully already washing your face (you are, right?) and probably with your standard body wash or bar of soap that’s really harsh on the delicate skin on your face. These products can actually have the reverse effects and dry out your skin and further enhance any issues with breakouts. Ideally, you want a product that can easily eliminate residue and keep your face looking hydrated without causing harm. Face-specific cleansers are best because they are designed to be gentle and non-drying, while still providing good cleansing results.

2. Moisturizer
When looking for a moisturizer it’s important to find a product that works for your skin type. There are four skin types to consider; dry, oily, normal/combination, and sensitive. If you’re not sure about your skin type the general rule of thumb is to aim for a moisturizer that is a medium-weight product that maintains moisture but doesn’t add oil to already shiny areas. Using a moisturizer will help seal in essentials oils and allows your skin to create a barrier that will protect it from dry air, harsh elements, and dirt. It’s also super important to find a product that contains some SPF to protect your skin from sun damage. Even your day-to-day routine exposes you to enough sun to cause long-term aging and damage so protecting yourself now is key.

3. Eye Cream
Yeah, we know, this probably sounds suspiciously high-maintenance but hear us out. Until you wake up from a night of partying, a red-eye flight, or a long week at work and see dark bags under your eyes, it’s easy to forget how sensitive the skin around our eyes is. Travel, sun, all-nighters at work (or at the club) can seriously take a toll, so to slow down the damage, simply apply a little bit each morning and gradually you’ll notice you look much more like a handsome gent and less like a Walking Dead extra.

4. Good Shaving Cream / Post-Shave Balm
Yes, it's time to take a step up from that weak foam or standard gel you've been using for a while. Good shaving cream is not only going to provide a smoother, more comfortable shave, but it's also going to prevent excess skin irritation from dragging that razor across your mug.  Plus, those foams and gel are incredibly drying, which only leads to more irritation. Shaving is tough on your face, no matter how sensitive your skin and a better shave is going to prevent ingrown hairs, razor burn, and cuts.  Adding in a proper post-shave balm or moisturizer is critical too.  It's going to not only add much-needed moisture but it's going to repair and enhance your just-shaved skin.

5. Lip Balm
There’s nothing worse than having to suffer from dry and chapped lips, especially if you’re looking to keep your dating game in tip-top shape. Our lips don’t contain oil glands like other parts of our body causing them to become dry frequently, not to mention what the effects of sun, wind, and changing temperatures can be. So, one or two applications throughout the day will keep your lips hydrated and feeling ready for Friday night.
